Family Day

What's more fun than being a toddler in the summer? Nothing if you're Sophie and you live in Duluth! Even though we're anxiously awaiting baby's arrival (and beginning to wonder if we need to serve him/her with an eviction notice...) we haven't been waiting around at home. In fact, we've been very busy. We enjoyed a nice family day this Saturday where we spent the afternoon at the beach, and the evening at the farm.

Sophie literally played in the water for two-hours, only stopping to occasionally bury herself (or her dad) in the sand. After beach time we went out for some pizza. If any of you have ever enjoyed a dining experience with a toddler in company, you know eating out is an activity that's usually saved for when babysitters are available. But Sophie was hungry enough after her beach routine that she surprised us by behaving in a manner that allowed us to actually be able to eat our dinner (i.e. dancing around the table vs. throwing herself on top of the table).

We ended the day at a Berry Farm out in Carlton where we went strawberry picking. Sophie was thrilled at this activity as she was able to exercise her ability to do things all by herself. She had her own bucket which she happily filled with half eaten, green, and smooshed strawberries.

I'm not sure if you are allowed to eat as many strawberries while you're picking them as Sophie did, but she was caught red handed....and the Farmer didn't seem to care. She had red streaks of drool running down her face as she ran up to the farmer yelling "HI! I makin sawbrreesh!" (Which translates into "Hi! I'm making strawberries.")

I'm not sure if Sophie is old enough to hang onto these beautiful memories that we continue to make together, but one thing's for sure, she's building a precious bond with nature, and her loving family with each day that passes. I truly cherished this weekend as one of the last times we'll get to spend together with just the three of us...it makes me want to tear up a little when I think about it, but then I think of what's to come and it fills me with bliss: a family.
