Our summer is off to a great start, but with Duluth weather being so cold and rainy (50 degrees...yuck), we ventured to Farmington for Father's Day weekend in hopes of replenishing some serious vitamin D loss. Our first day in the cities we decided to take Sophia to the Como Zoo and show her some cool things that she's never seen before (i.e. Giraffes, Zebras, and Gorillas). But it seems the rain just didn't want to part from our family, so it followed us on our trip. Sophia didn't mind, she was having a blast running through the rain and jumping in puddles! And Andy had loads of fun chasing a soaking wet toddler around the hot and humid over-crowded zoo. That evening, Jesse and Sarah were kind enough to let us crash at their house. While the boys watched baseball (go Twins!!) Sophia and I raided Sarah's baking supplies and made some extra chocolately, gluten-free cupcakes. Mistaking food coloring gel for cake decorating gel, we decorated each cupcake with blue lettering....sorry again to anyone who ate our cupcakes and had to deal with blue teeth for a week. (The Howard Family looked like they spend the weekend necking with smurfs.) The following day was by far the most fun, and most eventful. The family took a boat out on Prior Lake where we spent the day soaking up the sun, playing in the sand, and splashing in the water. Sophia had the time of her life, and was almost brave enough to jump into the lake. We ended our evening with a swim at the water park hotel that Grandma and Grandpa were staying in, and with an exhausted toddler, Andy and I set back for cold and rainy Duluth at Sophia's bed time, in hopes she would sleep the entire way home. Sophia remained passed out in the backseat of the car until about Hinkley, where we ran over someone's spare tire, that was sitting in the middle of the road, going 70 miles an hour. I'd have to say, the worst way to possibly get home from Hinkley with a family that included a 2 year old and a 9 month pregnant woman would be in a small, crammed, tow-truck with a smelly, fat guy, who was overtired (hungover??) from just getting back from Vegas. At least we made it home safe! I'm just glad we got to celebrate Father's Day in ways that symbolized what being a father is all about: sticking by your children in good weather and bad, soaking up the sunny times, and being there to save us in times of trouble! We love you, Andy!
