It's a BOY!

Our newest member to the family has arrived! Samson Davis Weyrauch was born July 22nd, at 2:26am weighing in at 7lbs 14oz and 21 inches long. Labor lasted a little over 24 hours, and already Samson doesn’t cry as much, sleeps extra, and eats way more than his big sister did when she was a newborn! It’s amazing how much ‘easier’ I’m finding things the 2nd time around. I’m not saying this has been a cake-walk or anything so far, but I think it helps that I have more confidence and knowledge of how to do things. When Sophia was first born, I was so nervous I broke out into hives every time she flinched. With Samson, I’m smooth….cool…confident….except when it comes to changing his diaper. I’m not used to changing a boy’s diaper, and end up turning the sprinklers on each time I do it. We average about two loads of laundry daily because everything is getting peed on.

Sophia is adjusting wonderfully to her new role as big sister. I was a little worried on how she’d handle things, because being the first grandchild on both sides of the family, Sophia is used to literally being the center of the universe. I’m happy to report that she’s doing great! In the beginning she was shy and didn’t want to touch Samson, but now that she’s warming up to him she isn’t afraid to march right up to him and plant big kisses on his head. Although I’m not sure she understands that Samson is a real person who is a human, because she keeps trying to get him to ‘sit’ and ‘shake’ much like she does with the family dog, Ruby. And I was a little worried yesterday when she put her baby doll in Samson’s car seat and proceeded to turn on her play hand mixer and smash the doll in the face…but for the most part she’s being a great helper, and always talks about Samson as being “cute” and “sweet”.

Sore. Happy. Totally sleep deprived. Stretched thin. Not wearing deodorant (…I’m just glad I had a moment to brush my teeth). I’m going through an adjustment period too. This whole two-children thing has its challenges. I’m just so thankful that I have an abundance of family surrounding us willing to pitch in and help. Here’s to our family of four!
